What length of mortised post do I need?
The length of the post required for closeboard and palisade fencing depends on several factors. The main ones are:
1/ Overall height of the fence.
2/ Post top required.
3/ Type of ground- firm or soft.
4/ Fenceline – flat or on a slope.
5/ Type of fence – closeboard, palisade etc.

Please Note
All mortised treated softwood posts used for closeboard or palisade fencing are susceptible to natural movement or shaking (vertical cracks in the wood) as the timber expands and contracts during the normal weathering process. These problems do not usually affect the structural integrity of the post and will mostly disappear when colder, moist weather returns. This is not considered to be a defect unless very severe.
