      • Concrete Posts, Gravel boards & SpursConcrete Posts, Gravel boards & Spurs Although not as nice to look at, with a life expectancy exceeding 25 years, concrete fencing materials are are a viable alternative to traditional wooden materials. We stock a range of Concrete Posts, Gravel boards & Spurs. We also stock repair spurs and decking support posts. Concrete posts are normally dug into the ground and the post secured with either a drymix ballast and cement (about 7 to 1 mix with no extra water added) rammed up around the post or postmix (follow directions on the bag).  The amount of each that will be required will depend on the size and depth of the hole. Try to keep the hole diameter fairly tight around the post, 200 to 250mm (8″ to 10″) is good. Generally, for any fence height, the hole should be a minimum of 600mm (2′) deep. For fence heights over 1.5m we recommend that the hole depth is increased to a minimum of 750mm (2′ 6″).       • Square Fence and Gate PostsSquare Fence and Gate Posts Square Softwood posts are ideal for use as Fencing, Gate or Deck Supports. Our large stocks of sawn softwood posts are treated using the latest generation preservatives to UC4 standard which the treatment companies say should provide an anticipated lifespan of 15 years. We do recommend adding an extra treatment to any timber that is in contact with the ground particularly from 100mm (4″) above ground level to 450mm (18″) below ground level. Here’s a bit more general information about our Square Fence and Gate Posts Softwood posts all have square ends (flat) as standard, except Gate Posts (150 mm, 175mm & 200mm) which are 4 way weathered (pyramid top) on one end as standard.  For other available options, see Post Tops below. Edge chamfering and router lines can be added if desired to softwood posts. Protect the top of your post with a Metal post cap or a standard Wooden post cap. Please note All treated softwood posts are susceptible to natural movement or shaking (vertical cracks in the wood) as the timber expands and contracts during the normal weathering process.       • Iroko Hardwood GatesIroko Hardwood Entrance Gates Crestala’s Iroko Entrance Gates are manufactured by skilled gate makers in a variety of styles. We can supply bespoke sizes and designs. All Iroko hardwood gates supplied by Crestala are very good value for money. The Iroko hardwood timber used is grown in Africa and sourced responsibly. Storage and Treatment. It is important that all gates made from Iroko are stored & cared for properly prior to hanging. Failure to follow these instructions may invalidate any future claims. If the gates are not to be fitted immediately then they must be kept out of direct sunlight, stored flat or stood up against a wall with both stiles touching the wall. All gates are supplied untreated. Iroko is a durable hardwood and can be left untreated. Over time the timber colour will change to a silver-grey. If you would like your gates to keep their natural colour for longer then the surface can be protected with regular coats of  Danish oil or Teak oil following the oil manufacturers instructions. Care must be taken to treat all surfaces, particularly the bottom, all end grain. When the gates are unwrapped, they should be oiled if required, ideally, before they…

We can supply bespoke sizes and designs. All untreated softwood gates supplied by Crestala are very good value for money. The timber used is joinery grade, slow-growing redwood. Storage and Treatment. It is important that all gates made from untreated Softwood are stored, treated & cared for properly prior to hanging. Failure to follow these instructions may invalidate any future claims. All gates are supplied with a base coat treatment (specify clear or green) which provides some basic protection against fungal attack and blue stain. IT IS IMPORTANT that all untreated softwood gates are further protected with a good quality wood preservative, particularly the underside and all end grain before applying your selected choice of topcoats. When the gates are unwrapped, they should be treated straight away before they are exposed to the elements. Untreated Softwood gates should be treated with a good quality clear wood preservative such as those made by Barrettine, Cuprinol or Protek.  Preservative treatments must be fully dry before applying quality decorative treatments such as those made by Sikkens and Protek. Protecting this vulnerable area with a Post Saver sleeve could extend the life expectancy of your posts. The process involves fitting a Postsaver sleeve onto the post in the correct position to help prevent premature rot taking place. As the position on the post of the PostSaver plastic and bitumastic sleeve is critical, these will normally be fitted by Crestala Fencing to order. Please talk to a member of staff for more information. Postsaver sleeves can be fitted to most sizes of post, from 75mm x 75mm square or 100mm rounds up to 200mm square or 150mm rounds.
