How to measure for Fence Panels

After December's blustery storms, we've been asked a lot about how to properly measure for new fence panels. With a range in stock and available for delivery to Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, East Grinstead, Sevenoaks and the surrounding areas (full delivery area for West Kent & East Sussex available here). All you need to do is measure up, choose your panel style, and phone or email it in the order.

Measuring for Fence Panels

Fence panels are typically 6ft (1.83m) wide for British-made panels or 1.8m wide for most continental-made panels. They usually come in standard heights of 3ft, 4ft, 5ft and 6ft or their metric equivalents: 0.9, 1.2, 1.5 and 1.8 metres.
  • If you are just doing a straightforward panel swap, replacing the panels and utilising existing posts, then simply measure the height, width, and quantity of your existing panels.
  • To start afresh, measure the length of your fence line accurately and divide by the width of the panels. Don't forget to allow for the width of the new posts in your calculations as well.
Tips
  • Using our panel extension kit, you can replace standard 6-foot-wide UK panels with narrower continental-style panels using existing posts.
  • If your posts are long enough or you are starting from scratch, our new panels will last longer if they are clear of the ground. You can easily achieve this by selecting a wooden or composite gravel board from our extensive range.

Choose your Panel style and Order your Panels. With so many different posts and panels to choose from, it can be confusing to work out exactly what you need. Our Sales Team is on hand to help if you need it. Simply contact us and upload a photo to explain what you need!

We have several ways for you to order your new fence panels and arrange for local delivery.
