What length of mortised post do I need?

The post length required for closeboard and palisade fencing depends on several factors. The main ones are:
1/ Overall height of the fence.
2/ Post top required.
3/Ground- firm or soft.
4/ Fenceline - flat or on a slope.
5/ Type of fence - closeboard, palisade etc.
