Brenton Bolt for domestic Gates

Brenton pad bolts are available in galvanised or painted black finishes. These padlock able bolts provide security for gates and shed doors. They can be securely fitted to a gate or shed door horizontal rail.
An alternative security solution is to fit a key lockable long throw lock, designed for use with external gates and doors.

How to Use

There are two options for attaching this bolt style.
1/ Using the screws provided is the quickest and easiest way. Although this method provides some security, the pad bolts can be levered off using a bit of force.
2/ The more secure method is to use coach bolts instead of screws. By assembling the coach bolt nuts on the inside of the gate or door, you can make the Pad bolt much more secure and harder for a thief to remove.

  • Position the bolt assembly at the required height on the door frame and secure it with screws and/or bolts.
  • Extend the bolt bar and slip on the keep, and position it over the gate post or wall plate.
  • Set the position of the keep so that the bolt bar is near the top of the keep hole and secure it with screws/bolts.
( Setting the Keep in this position allows the bolt to still slide freely even if the gate frame drops a little as the gate settles.)

All packs include screws, and most include coach bolts for 50mm-thick frames. Additionally, coach bolts for 70mm-thick frames are available.

Installation Tips

Tip 1. If you fit the Brenton bolt with coach bolts to increase security, purchase a good-quality security padlock.

Tip 2. After a time, all gates drop a little on the closing stile. Fitting the keep so that the bolt enters at the top of the hole allows for this and avoids having to move the bolt or keep later on.

Recommended Aftercare

To keep the bolt operating smoothly regularly give it a few drops of oil.
