Counter rail is pressure-treated and used in fencing or as framing timber for building sheds or external frameworks.
The counter rail supports capping rails or trellis panels that can be fitted over closeboard or palisade fencing. It is also very popular for other DIY projects, such as shed building.
For fencing, a 50mm rail is nailed to the post at each end and through every second or third feather-edge board. The 75mm rail ends fit into an extra mortise near the top of each post and are also nailed through the top of the feather-edge.
