Panels
Fence Panels
Fence Panels are a popular and relatively easy way of making a fence. We can supply fencing panels in various styles and heights to suit all needs or budgets. In our onsite workshop, we can make bespoke panels in some of our styles. Please note: Non-standard or panels made to order are manufactured specifically for you and are not returnable or refundable.
Posts options for supporting panels
There are three main options to support your panels.
1/ Treated square wooden posts
The best method of attaching the panels to the posts is to screw sideways through the panel end battens into the post on the front and the back of the panel. 75mm or 100mm external quality wood screws with a slash or predrilling point and a maximum diameter of 5mm (No8) are ideal. If you can, predrill holes in the battens to reduce the possibility of the battens splitting. "U" panel clips can be used if preferred, but they are not as secure. The panels can "pop out" of the clips in strong winds and fall down. They also create a gap between the post and the panel, which opens up during the summer. Wooden post sizes used for fence panels are: a/ 100mm x 100mm (4" x 4") Suitable for all panels. b/ 100mm x 75mm (4" x 3") The panels are fixed to the 100mm sides. This gives the strength of a 100mm depth combined with a smaller 75mm for less visual impact. Suitable for all panels. c/ 75mm x 75mm (3" x 3") This is the smallest wooden post suitable for supporting panels. For panel heights above 1.2m (4'), we would recommend upgrading to the more substantial 100mm x 75mm post.
2/Concrete slotted posts
A popular choice for supporting panels as they are generally long-lasting. New or replacement panels can be slotted in from the top if required. As there is no way to fix the panel directly to the concrete posts to prevent the panels from bending and blowing out, the posts must be fitted up to the panels with a minimum clearance. It is important that the posts are vertical, or you will have trouble slotting in the panel. The panels can be joined together with panel security brackets at the top and bottom to increase security by stopping the panels from being lifted or "popped" out,
3/ Metal DuraPost
DuraPost is a new and innovative post with strength, durability and good looks, ideal for panel fencing. Panels are easily and securely attached to the "H" shaped posts with external quality round-head woodscrews. These strong posts have been tested in 100mph winds and come with a manufacturer's guarantee of 15 or 25 years. (T's & C's apply)
Fixing posts for panels in the ground
All three types of post are dug into the ground, and the post is secured in the hole with either a dry mix of ballast and cement (about 7 to 1 mix with no extra water added) rammed up hard around the post or postmix (please follow the directions on the bag). For any fence height, the post hole should be a minimum of 600mm (2′) deep. For fence heights over 1.5m, we recommend that the hole depth is increased to a minimum of 750mm (2′ 6″).
Sloping Fenceline
Remember, if your fence line is on a slope, each panel will need to step up or down. To accommodate this, you will need to allow for longer posts. Our Sales Team can help you work out what height posts you require.
Panel Treatments
All of our Panels are manufactured with pressure-treated timber. The only exception to this is the cheaper Brown Waney Edge which is dip treated.
Gravel Boards
To increase the lifespan of your panels, it helps if the panels are fitted clear of the ground. This can easily be achieved using a gravel board that sits on or above the ground. We have a range of three different types of gravel boards to suit varying uses and budgets. * The standard wooden gravel boards. ** Concrete gravel boards. *** Composite gravel boards.
Please note:
As with all timber products, panels can be affected by dry/hot spells. Panels may twist or warp, and the panel slats, which are made of thinly cut timber can split. These problems do not usually affect the structural integrity of the panel and will mostly disappear when colder, moist weather returns.

For more information on any concrete products or to obtain a quote for your job please contact us or phone sales on 01892 864646.
Concrete Posts, Gravel Boards & Spurs
Concrete Posts and Concrete Fencing Materials
Although Concrete Posts and Concrete Fencing Materials may not be as nice to look at as wood, with a life expectancy of about 25 years, concrete posts and fencing materials are viable alternatives to traditional wooden fencing. We stock a range of Concrete Posts, Gravel boards & repair Spurs. We also stock concrete decking support posts.
Concrete Posts
Concrete posts are normally dug into the ground and the post secured with either a drymix of ballast and cement (about 7 to 1 mix with no extra water added) rammed up around the post or postmix (it is important to follow the instructions on the bag). The amount of each that will be required will depend on the size and depth of the hole. Try to keep the hole diameter fairly tight around the post, 200 to 250mm (8" to 10") is good. Generally, for any fence height, the hole should be a minimum of 600mm (2') deep. For fence heights over 1.5m we recommend that the hole depth is increased to a minimum of 750mm (2' 6").
Concrete Gravel Boards
Concrete Gravel boards for use under standard UK 6' (1.83m) panels are normally used with slotted concrete posts. Brackets are available to allow them to be fitted to wooden posts if required. Longer 2.885m concrete gravel boards are available for use with concrete mortised posts to fit under 3m bays of Closeboard. They can be cut down for shorter bays with specialized tools.
Concrete Spurs
Concrete Spurs have a variety of uses. The main one being to repair fence posts that have rotted at ground level. They are attached to the post using coach bolts if you can get at both sides of the fence or coach screws if there is access to one side only.
Transportation
Concrete fencing items can be quite brittle and crack or chip easily. They need to be transported lying flat and supported along the whole length or they may crack during transit. Please handle with care. We strongly recommend that all items are checked at the time of collection or delivery.
Lifting
Safety note: All concrete items are heavy and should be lifted with care. Many require a minimum of two people to lift.

Square Fence and Gate Posts
Here's a bit more general information about our wooden Square Fence and Gate Posts.
- Softwood posts all have square ends (flat) as standard, except Gate Posts (150 mm, 175mm, and 200mm), which are four-way weathered (pyramid top) on one end as standard.
- Edge chamfering and router lines can be added if desired to softwood posts.
- Protect the top of your post with a Metal post cap or a standard Wooden post cap.
Trellis and Privacy Lattice
Typical uses for Trellis panels
Trellis and Privacy Lattice fence panels are versatile and have many uses around the garden. Including fitting above our standard fence panels, providing a strong frame for climbing plants, and screening eyesores like dustbin areas. We can make bespoke trellis to fit between pergola posts or to make trellis features. Diamond Privacy panels are made from a lighter material, so they are not as strong as our Crestala trellis panels. However, privacy trellises are more suitable for those who would like more screening.
Posts for Trellis Panels
All our trellis and lattice are suitable for use with wooden posts. Most can be used with our concrete slotted or metal DuraPost posts. The exception is Crestala's own Diamond Trellis, which, being three battens thick, is too substantial and will not fit into the grooves of slotted posts.
Materials
All Crestala Trellis is manufactured in our workshop from UK-grown pressure-treated 19mm x 38mm batten. Diamond Privacy Panels are imported and made from mixed timber species. All the timber used in their manufacture is pressure-treated.
Non-standard trellis
We can produce a wide range of non-standard Trellis panel sizes in our workshop. Talk to our Sales Team for more information and a quote. Please note: Any Non-standard or trellis made-to-order is manufactured specifically for you and is not returnable or refundable.
Gravel boards
Your trellis or lattice will last longer if kept clear of the ground. We offer three types of gravel boards suitable for fitting under trellis panels: wooden, concrete, or composite. Please note that concrete gravel boards are 1.83m (6ft) long and are too long to fit under continental-style 1.8m wide panels without using a spacer between each end of the panel and the posts. Wooden and composite boards can be easily cut to size for use with 1.8 m-wide trellis panels. Over 1.83m (6') wide wooden gravel boards are the best option for trellis panels.
Palisade & Picket
Palisade or Picket fencing is very popular as front or back garden boundary fencing, particularly where a solid fence is not needed or desired. Palisade Fencing can also be used to partition off parts of the garden, such as the veggie patch, from children and pets. Matching gates and all the gate fittings are also available.
If you want more information on our palisade fencing, please check out our Palisade Fencing Materials and information help pages.
All our Palisade fencing materials are pressure-treated with preservatives for longevity. We recommend applying a coat of UV wood oil to our pressure-treated fencing when it is new. Then reoiled every year. This oiling will help to reduce the natural weathering effects and keep your fence looking good for longer. See our sheet on Looking after pressure-treated fencing for more options. To produce the traditional cottage-style fence, the fence can be treated with a coloured, water-based paint instead of oiling. Ideally, the fence should be left for several months for the pressure treatment to dry out before recoating. It is best to avoid dark colours as they attract heat which may cause additional movement in the timber.
Netting, Wire and Weldmesh
Netting, Line Wire or Weldmesh
- Mild steel is more pliable, softer and easier to work with. It does stretch more when tensioned.
- High tensile is stiffer and harder to work with and cut. It stretches less when tensioned.
Closeboard Fencing
Closeboard Fencing (often called Shiplap or Featheredge fencing) is a versatile and robust solid fence suitable for domestic and garden fencing or security around commercial properties. When assembled correctly, Closeboard fencing is aesthetically pleasing and lasts well. In addition, it is comparatively easy to construct and repair and is well within the capability of the average DIY enthusiast.
Our workshop will mortise a range of wooden posts to match your closeboard fencing order. Alternatively, for longer-lasting posts, we have a range of mortised concrete posts or the metal "H" section DuraPost. Any of these three types of posts is suitable for this style of fencing. Featheredge style fencing can easily cope with the sloping ground or slight variations in the fence line. For a fence that changes height, steps up or down or has changes in level across the fence line, we usually specify the use of our wooden mortised posts, which can be prepared in our workshop to match your fence line. However, DuraPost is very versatile and offers a long-lasting alternative that is easily adjusted on-site.
Need a little more information? Then check out our Closeboard Fencing Materials & Information help sheet. Alternatively, you can talk to our Team by phone for more help or information or email us with a question. We can supply all the infill materials and accessories needed to make assembling your closeboard fence easier. Note: As an alternative to making up a Closeboard from a kit, Closeboard Panels are available and can be used with treated softwood Posts, Slotted Concrete Posts or metal DuraPost.

Metal DuraPost
DuraPost – Stronger, Lighter and Faster
DuraPost is a good solution to the problem of rotting wooden posts without having to use the hefty, unattractive and drab-looking concrete posts. Made from cold-rolled steel, these “H” section posts are very strong yet surprisingly light. This makes them faster and easier to fit, saving you time, energy and ultimately money. The new Fencemate DuraPost® complements the beauty of wood with the strength of steel. Creating durable fencing that’s quick and easy to install. Wind tunnel tested to 100mph; these robust posts are perfect for most types of domestic fencing.
DuraPost Versatility
These posts are great for supporting most standard UK-manufactured and continental pattern fence panels. The pre-drilled “H” section posts are easily adapted by changing the Closeboard and Palisade (picket) fencing framework. Most other types of fencing can also be easily erected using the versatile DuraPost.
Composite Gravel Boards
Composite, rot-free DuraPost gravel boards are suitable for fitting under fence panels (1.83m, 6ft long) and closeboard or palisade (2.44m, 8ft long). They are coloured to match the Olive green DuraPost. These gravel boards will also fit into standard concrete slotted posts. We recommend fitting a galvanised reinforcing rod into each gravel board to increase its strength and rigidity. The boards can be stacked on top of one another to form a solid fence panel. Each board features an interlocking ridge and groove, preventing gaps from forming between the boards.
Up to 25 years Manufacturers' Guarantee
Guaranteed against failure from corrosion for up to 25 years* DuraPost® will not split, warp or rot like wooden posts or chip and crack like concrete posts. All DuraPosts are galvanised with the option to have an extra layer of coloured powder coating for added protection. To obtain the guarantee, you must register your purchase with the manufacturer within 3 months of the invoice date. (see terms & conditions*) .
Money-saving
Unlike wooden posts, all the framework components are speedily screwed together utilising Durapost’s predrilled holes. This makes the fencing very strong and secure. Panels cannot be lifted out, so there is no need to buy panel security brackets. For Closeboard and Palisade fences, different-sized bays and coping with slopes are quick and easy to achieve with DuraPost. No Arris rails to reshape either, saving even more time. DuraPost is up to 80% lighter than the equivalent concrete posts and up to 50% lighter than an equivalent treated wooden post. This means they are much easier to transport, manhandle and install, saving you time and money all around. Unlike wooden posts, if all goes wrong, the fencing can be quickly disassembled and adjusted with minimal damage to the fencing materials.
Adaptable for Corners and Ends
Standard Duraposts can be easily adapted to make corner posts by using 75 x 50mm (3″ x 2″)- See photo. The ends of each run are finished off with a strip of 50 x 25mm (2″ x 1″) to fill the redundant channel- See photo. To complete the fence, each post is topped with a matching post cap (optional). Alternatively, you can attach “U” channel adapters to Durapost gate/corner posts using 4.8mm x 16mm pan-head self-drilling screws to create a corner or an end. “U” channels come in four colours, galvanised or with an added powder-coated layer of protection coloured olive green, brown or anthracite. The ” U” channels can also be screwed directly onto a wall using appropriate screws and a plug to make an End, instead of a more traditional 100mm x 50mm wooden wall plate and coach screws. Please note: If the wall is not perfectly flat and straight, a wooden plate is a better option.
Come to our yard & take a look!
You are welcome to come and see for yourself. We have a display set up in our yard showing how to use Durapost with fence panels, as well as how DuraPost can be easily used for traditional closeboard fencing and palisade fencing. See photos. You can discuss your requirements with a member of our Sales Team, who will provide you with a free quote tailored to meet your needs.

All pressure-treated softwood gates are susceptible to natural movement or shaking (cracks in the timber) as the wood expands and contracts during the normal weathering process. This is not considered a defect unless very severe. All Closeboard gates supplied by Crestala must be stored, treated and cared for properly before and after hanging. Please, read the recommendations on our "Important Gate Care Information" sheet for more detailed instructions. Failure to follow these instructions may invalidate any future claims. Netting, Wire & Mesh
We offer a range of Netting, line wire, and weldmesh products to suit most fencing purposes. Wire products are very versatile. With uses ranging from keeping animals of all sizes in or out to simply marking a boundary. All wire and weld mesh products are ideal for both domestic and commercial use. When selecting Netting, Line wire or Weldmesh, please consider the following:
- Mild steel is more pliable, softer and easier to work with. It does stretch more when tensioned.
- High tensile is stiffer and harder to work with and cut. It stretches less when tensioned.
Wire products can be used with a variety of posts, but are most commonly used with Round, Half Round or Chestnut Posts.
Closeboard Fencing
Closeboard fencing (often called Shiplap or Featheredge fencing)is versatile and robust. It is suitable for both domestic and commercial purposes. Comparatively easy to erect or repair, and well within the capability of the average DIY enthusiast. If needed, we have cost-effective closeboard gates to match your fencing. A closeboard fence can be aesthetically pleasing, strong, and long-lasting when assembled correctly.
Overall fence heights range from 0.9m to 2.55m.
Closeboard fencing made with our mortised posts is adaptable and easily copes with most terrains, including changes in height, slopes, step-downs and step-ups, curves and corners from 45 to 135 degrees.
It can be easily joined to most other types of fencing.

DuraPost Fencing System
DuraPost – Stronger, Lighter and Faster
DuraPost is a good solution to the problem of rotting wooden posts without having to use the hefty, unattractive and drab-looking concrete posts. Made from cold-rolled steel, these “H” section posts are very strong yet surprisingly light. This makes them faster and easier to fit, saving you time, energy and money. The new Fencemate DuraPost® complements the beauty of wood with the strength of steel. Creating durable fencing that’s quick and easy to install. Wind tunnel tested to 100mph; these robust posts are perfect for most types of domestic fencing.
DuraPost Versatility
These posts are great for supporting most standard UK-manufactured and continental-pattern fence panels. The pre-drilled “H” section posts are easily adapted for Closeboard and Palisade (picket) fencing. The versatile DuraPost can also be used to erect most other types of fencing.
Composite Gravel Boards
Composite, rot free DuraPost gravel boards are suitable for fitting under fence panels ( 1.83m 6ft long ) and closeboard or palisade (2.44m 8ft long). They are coloured to match the DuraPost. These gravel boards will also fit into standard concrete slotted posts. We recommend fitting a galvanised reinforcing rod into each gravel board to increase its strength and rigidity. The boards can be stacked on one another to make a solid fence panel. Each board has an interlocking ridge and groove, which prevents gaps from opening up between the boards.
Up to 25 years Manufacturers Guarantee
Guaranteed against failure from corrosion for up to 25 years* DuraPost® will not split, warp and rot like wooden posts or chip and crack like concrete posts. All DuraPosts are galvanised with the option of having an extra layer of coloured powder coating for added protection, which blends in well with the colour of our treated timber. To obtain the guarantee, you must register your purchase with the manufacturer within 3 months of the invoice date. (see terms & conditions*) .
Money-saving
Unlike wooden posts, all the framework components are speedily screwed together, utilising Durapost’s predrilled holes. This makes the fencing very strong and secure. Panels cannot be lifted out, so there is no need to buy panel security brackets. For Closeboard and Palisade fences, different size bays and coping with slopes is quick and easy to do with DuraPost. There are no Arris rails to reshape either, saving even more time. DuraPosts are up to 80% lighter than the equivalent concrete posts and up to 50% lighter than an equivalent treated wooden post. This means they are much easier to transport, manhandle and install, saving you time and money all around.
Come to our yard & take a look!
You are welcome to come and see for yourself. We have a display set up in our yard showing how to use Durapost with fence panels and how DuraPost’s can easily be used for traditional closeboard fencing and palisade fencing. See photos.
